Police fooled by ‘body double’ in Cape Town shooting

The victim was initially believed to be alleged mob boss Nafiz Modack.

Police appear to have been fooled by a “body double” after mistakenly telling News24 that a man shot dead in Cape Town while viewing cars was alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack.

It has since emerged that Modack was not the one shot, leading people, including journalist Mandy Wiener, to suggest that a body double may have been used.

Modack has confirmed that he is still alive via a WhatsApp message to News24.

The man was reportedly killed after three armed men approached him at a car auction, shooting him in the head and chest. Another person was reportedly wounded by a bullet, according to police.

Modack is a controversial businessman working in the security industry, who was arrested alongside Carl Lakay, Ashley Fields, Colin Booysen, and Jacques Cronje on charges of extortion, money laundering, and defeating the ends of justice.

However, the charges Modack and Cronje were facing were withdrawn in May last year due to an apparent lack of evidence.
