In a statement, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said he was found with a gun wound and a service pistol.
“He was rushed to the nearest hospital and passed on the following afternoon.”
Details of the incident were still under SAPS investigation.
“The Tshwane Metro Police Department is saddened by this loss and sends its deepest felt condolences to his family, colleagues and friends,” Mahamba said.
His name and funeral arrangements would be communicated later.
