Paramedics have confirmed that at least three people have died following a shootout at Durban’s Victoria Embankment student residence in Baker Street on Monday.
Metro police have confirmed that one of the people involved in the shooting was an off-duty police officer.
Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said nine people were in a room on the first floor of the building. Three have been confirmed killed, with five injured, and one critically injured.
According to reports at the scene, which is situated near the Durban High Court in the Durban CBD, two males and one female have died.
The official casualty numbers, however, are yet to be confirmed.
Netcare 911 confirmed that the residence is located behind a police station, and that the injured were transported to hospital for further treatment.
The further circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet clear.
