Nyatshiri Primary School pupils at Ntsako village outside Tzaneen yesterday started the school year to the news that one of their teachers had been gunned down the previous morning, allegedly by a jealous boyfriend.
Teachers and pupils wept hysterically when news of lvone Mushwana’s death was announced at school assembly.
“We are extremely saddened by the death of our teacher. She was like a mother and a mentor to all the children in our school,” one pupil said. “We hope to have a chance to deal with the loss and maybe we will recuperate after the funeral.”
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said yesterday Mushwana was shot while she was with her “boyfriend” at a scrapyard near Nkowankowa at 10am on Tuesday.
“People heard gunshots and immediately went to investigate. They found Mushwana lying dead on the ground in a pool of blood. It was reported that the boyfriend ran away after the gunshots.”
The boyfriend, Khashane Willy Malatji, a local businessperson, was found dead in his house later.
“His body had a gunshot wound and the firearm was lying next to him.”
