Limpopo DA mourns the brutal killing of Annette Kennealy

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo is mourning the brutal killing of a former ward councillor, Annette Kennealy, whose body was found in a pool of blood in her house on Tuesday morning.

Kennealy, a prominent Limpopo farmer, was murdered on her farm outside Makhado in the Vhembe region of Limpopo. Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the gruesome murder occurred at Welgevonden Farm, outside Makhado, during the night between Monday and Tuesday.

“We have since arrested a 40-year-old man [in connection with] Kennealy’s murder and the suspect will appear before the Louis Trichard Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Ngoepe yesterday.

According to Ngoepe, police investigations revealed Kennealy, who was staying at the farm with an employee, was attacked by unknown suspects at the farm while sleeping in her house.

“Family members, who were not living with her at the same farm, allegedly tried to call her on numerous occasions, without any success, until one of them went to investigate. “On arrival, he found the deceased inside the house lying in a pool of blood, with multiple stab wounds,” said Ngoepe.

Yesterday, the DA in Limpopo expressed its sincere, heartfelt condolences to the family of its former councillor.

“The DA asked for justice to be served on those responsible for her untimely and gruesome murder. “Ms Kennealy served the DA as a councillor between the years 2011 to 2014 and will be remembered for her selfless service and her commitment towards human rights,” said DA Limpopo provincial leader Jacques Smalle yesterday.

“The DA would further like to express sincere gratitude to the South African Police Service and community institutions for their swift and professional reaction.

“We hope that those responsible will soon have their days in court and that justice will be served.”
