Police arrested a 38-year-old man after he allegedly tried to murder his 28-year-old girlfriend in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday night.
The man faces charges of attempted murder as well as the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect allegedly shot his girlfriend in the upper body inside their flat’, after they had an argument over her cellphone. Police say he accused his the woman of cheating on him.

The woman was taken to hospital by an ambulance.
A gun with no serial number, along with ammunition were found at the scene. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to find out if it was used in other crimes.
The suspect will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 3 September.
