A 27-year-old man, who is suspected of being in the country illegally, was arrested in Vosman, eMalahleni, on Saturday after being found in possession of three stolen cars.
The foreign national was caught after officers who are part of the police’s Operation Vala Umgodi received intelligence on the alleged criminal activities.
Stolen cars found in eMalahleni
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane said it is suspected the vehicles were stolen from different areas.
“Amongst the vehicles was a Nissan Navara, charcoal in colour with Gauteng registration number plates. The vehicle was reported stolen in March 2025 at Hartbeespoort Dam.
“There was also a white VW Amarok with Gauteng registration plates, which was reported stolen in January 2025 in Boschkop and a white Mercedes Benz, which was also reported stolen in April 2025 at Vanderbijlpark,” said Nonyane.

Other items confiscated by police
The cars weren’t the only suspicious items found by police at the property.
“During the operation, six car keys, cellphones, identity documents, license discs, and VIN number stickers were confiscated, as well as dagga. The astute members also confiscated about 41 units of crack cocaine abandoned at the premises.”
Nonyane added that the suspect was charged for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle as well as for Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.
He is expected to appear at the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 22 April 2025.
Suspects arrested for illegal mining in Limpopo
Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested on Saturday for illegal mining of sand at Thabampshe Village, Limpopo.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspects, aged 37 and 59, were noticed by members patrolling identified illegal mining sites in the area.
“They noticed two males busy loading sand, utilising a white tipper truck and a front loader truck. The suspects were approached and arrested. Both vehicles were then confiscated,” said Ledwaba.
Police also confiscated an abandoned hammer at one of the illegal mining sites in the Mokopane policing area, in the Waterberg District.
In addition, Ledwaba said six suspects, aged between 29 and 43, were arrested for contravention of immigration laws in the Vhembe and Mopani districts.
