There’s been another shootout between criminals and police in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Four suspects who were wanted for cases of murder in Inanda were killed in a shootout with police on the M4 Highway in Umlazi on Tuesday afternoon.
Shootout
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that officers had gathered intelligence about the whereabouts of suspects wanted for several cases of murder.
“When police pounced on them at a mall in Umlazi, the suspects sped off and with police catching up on them, the suspects fired shots towards the police and to protect themselves and other road users, police returned fire.
“During the shootout, four suspects were shot and fatally wounded. No police officer sustained any injuries during the shootout,” Netshiunda said.

Murder
Netshiunda added that the suspects were found in possession of three firearms.
“The four suspects were wanted for at least three cases of murder in Inanda, two which were double murders. The murders were committed in March and April 2025.”
CIT suspects killed
Last week, five suspected cash-in-transit robbers (CIT), including a kingpin wanted for a string of cash-in-transit robberies in KZN, were shot dead.
The robbers, who are from Gauteng, are also believed to be linked to a heist in KwaMashu on the M25 near Duff Road.
They were killed in a shootout with police at Ridgeview near Chesterville on Wednesday afternoon.
Robberies
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the men were notorious for CIT robberies.
“Police were conducting an intelligence-led operation after gathering information that the suspects were planning to commit yet another cash-in-transit robbery in the vicinity of the iLembe District in the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
“Police identified the suspect’s vehicle, and as they approached it, the suspects opened fire towards the police, and a shootout ensued. During the shootout, all five suspects were shot and fatally wounded,” Netshiunda said.
Police found three pistols, a shotgun and fancy clothes in the suspect’s BMW.
