Five killed ‘execution-style’, one wounded in KZN shooting

Five people have been killed in a shooting incident in Inanda KwaZulu-Natal.

It is understood the shooting took place at about 9:30pm on Thursday at Tambo Plaza area in Amaoti. The Witness reported the men were shot execution-style in a home.

Police spokesperpon Brigadier Jay Naicker said when officers arrived at the scene they found the bodies of five men in a RDP house.

“The deceased were found in the house with multiple gunshot wounds. It was established that all five deceased who are in their twenties, were in the house when they were shot by unknown suspects who arrived in a getaway vehicle.

“A sixth victim who was shot in the hand, was taken to hospital for medical attention. From information gathered at the scene of the shooting incident, we cannot rule out the possibility that the motive is drug related.

Naicker said the crime scene was processed by detectives from the Provincial Task Team who investigate multiple murders.

Shot in the head

Spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), Prem Balram, told The Witness said they were called after neighbours heard several shots coming from the house.

He said the five men were shot in the head, two bodies were discovered under a bed, one in the kitchen and two others in a toilet.

“A female residing approximately 30 metres away was also shot in the arm. It is believed that the gunmen proceeded to her residence first and shot her before attacking the deceased men. The suspects were allegedly travelling in a white Toyota Quantum,” he said.

Shootout

The shooting comes a day after seven people believed to be criminals were shot dead execution-style in KwaMashu, north of Durban.

Naicker said the men were found under a railway bridge on Monday night, each with gunshot wounds to the head.

“All seven deceased were found lying next to a pillar of the railway bridge and in a straight line with gunshot wounds to the head. Police found 18, 9mm spent cartridges on the crime scene.
