Domestic workers warned to be vigilant

A domestic worker recently fell victim to an armed robbery in the Linden area.

Linden police are warning local domestic workers to be vigilant after a domestic worker fell victim to an armed robbery on January 11, reports Randburg Sun.

According to the Linden Police Station spokesperson, Constable Takalani Matumba, the female victim was at her place of work when she heard the intercom ring for the outside gate.

“When she answered the intercom, she was greeted by a female voice who said she was there to view the house as it is for sale,” Matumba said.

The victim then proceeded to open the gate for the women who was driving the car.

Matumba said, “She was with two males, who were introduced as the husband and his helper. The female suspect asked to use the bathroom inside the house, leaving the two males inside the car, and proceeded to move inside.

“While they were inside the house, they were followed by the male suspect who was introduced to be the husband. After using the bathroom, the female suspect asked for a pen so that she can write her details for the owner of the house, and while she was looking for the pen, the other suspect came in.”

The suspects allegedly started to assault the victim, tying her hands and legs and putting tape over her mouth. The suspects ransacked the house, taking a microwave oven, TV, laptop, entertainment system, wine, and clothing.

The suspects left the scene driving a green car with an unknown registration number.

Matumba added: “We would like to warn the domestic workers and their employers in the area to be more vigilant of this type method of crime and to be careful who they open the houses and gates for. If a house is advertised as for sale, only let viewers in when the owner of the house is around.”
