Four Bulgarian nationals found murdered in Constantia

Four Bulgarian nationals were found murdered on Thursday morning in the upmarket Cape Town suburb of Constantia.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, the lifeless bodies of four adult victims were discovered around 8.20am on Thursday, 25 May 2023. Traut said the location within Constantia could not be disclosed to the public as yet.

He confirmed that the victims were all adults between the ages of 40 to 50 years. He also confirmed that all four murder victims were found with gunshot wounds.

Crime scene

Traut said that police were immediately summoned to the crime scene once the gruesome discovery was made and crime scene experts were still combing the scene in Constantia.

“The motive for the multiple murders is yet to be determined. All we know for now is that the victims are believed to be of Bulgarian descent.

“Serious and Violent Crime detectives have initiated an investigation into the murders,” he concluded.

Last month, a 22-year-old German national was reported missing, after he went on a hike along the Hangberg Trail between Hout Bay and Sandy Bay. According to reports, five suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of items belonging to the missing person.

Warning issued to foreign nationals

Cape Town Tourism has since issued a warning to foreigners to be cautious when visiting the Mother City.

This followed the murder of a German national last October, in Mpumalanga. According to reports, the German tourist was shot and killed en route to the Kruger National Park.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said a group of four German nationals were travelling in a Hyundai H1 on Numbi Road on the way to Mdluli Safari Lodge when they were attacked.

“They were stopped by three armed suspects who were driving in a VW Caddy.

“The suspects are said to have instructed the tourists to open the doors of their vehicle, but when the driver reportedly locked all the doors, apparently one of the suspects shot him in the upper body through the window,” Mohlala said.
