Brutal farm attack shocks Georges Valley community

A man and his elderly mother have been shaken after being tortured and robbed, the second incident to occur in the region in a week.

A manhunt has been launched for three male suspects after a brutal farm attack in Limpopo took place late last Saturday evening, reports Letaba Herald.

The attack took place on a farm in the Georges Valley area, leaving a man and his elderly mother physically and emotionally scarred.

According to Sergeant Maurice Nkhwashu of the Tzaneen SAPS, three male suspects attacked the man, who is in his late 40’s, as he was about to enter his home that evening.

The suspects are said to have tied the man up before entering his house.

They took R2,000 from the man and an additional R15,000 from his mother who was found in the house, according to Nkwashu.

“After ransacking the entire house, the suspects then plugged in a clothes iron. When it was hot, they burnt the man’s buttocks and his stomach,” Nkwashu told the Letaba Herald.

According to a family member, the man and his mother are receiving counselling to assist them in dealing with the incident.

Police investigations are ongoing.

This is the second incident on a farm in Georges Valley within a week.

A case of attempted murder was also opened after a man got shot last Tuesday night in Georges Valley.

The incident was initially believed to be a farm attack.

Letaba Herald was told that the victim, 26-year-old Zimbabwean citizen Moses Takudzwa Moyo and an employee at the farm, alleged that he was sitting outside at the compound when he heard dogs barking.

Moyo saw an unknown man approaching him that allegedly simply said “Hey”.

Before Moyo could respond, the man shot him on his right arm.

He was admitted to Van Velden Hospital.

The suspect is unknown and no arrests have been made.

“Members of the public are advised and encouraged to report all incidents of crime immediately. It is important to avoid distortion of evidence, and to have a successful construction of evidence through the witnesses because their minds will still be fresh,” police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe told the Letaba Herald.
