The South African Police Service and emergency personnel were at the tragic scene of a double shooting incident which left a couple dead in Palmview, Phoenix, over the weekend, Phoenix Sun reports.
While the exact motive has not been established, it is believed that the man and woman were involved in a domestic dispute when the man allegedly withdrew his firearm and shot his wife, thereafter turning the gun and shooting himself in the head.
The incident occurred in the presence of the couple’s two children, who were not injured.
The RUSA Phoenix Operations Centre received several calls from concerned members of the community at about 9.07pm on Sunday, after they heard shots being fired on the property.
Upon arrival, the body of the woman was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen in an outbuilding.
“She had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The body of her husband was found in the passage. He had also sustained a gunshot wound to the head,” the report pointed out.
“Information received at the scene alleged that the firearm used in the shooting belonged to the husband’s late father and the gun was removed from his mother’s home without her consent. This information could not be confirmed,” the report added.
Investigations continue.
