Hawks arrests another Mpumalanga police officer

He will join the other six suspects arrested for corruption last week.

A 35-year-old police man from Belfast SAPS was arrested yesterday, Mpumalanga News reports.

He will be joining the six suspects who where arrested last week for corruption.

The suspect will appear before the Belfast Magistrate’s Court today.

This follows the arrest of four traffic officers and two police by members of the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation Unit in Mpumalanga on Friday for corruption.

Three suspects, Khethiwe Mkhabela, 42; Lucky Mabena, 37 – both traffic officials; and David Mahlare Ntuli, 34 – a police officer, appeared before the Komatipoort Magistrate Court the same day for corruption.

They were granted R1,000 bail each.

The case was postponed to July 12 2019 pending further investigation.

The other three suspects, two traffic officials and a police officer, whose identities cannot be divulged, will appear in Middelburg and Belfast Magistrate Court’s respectively on Monday.

It is alleged that in April, the suspects solicited bribes from the motorists along the N4 road between Komatipoort and Middleburg.

More arrests are imminent, police said in an ongoing crackdown on police corruption in the province.
