Manhunt launched after man is found with slit throat in Free State

The deceased was found with a wound on his forehead and a slit throat, with a blood-stained stone and a cellular phone lying next to him.


Police in Kutlwanong in the Free State have launched a manhunt following the discovery of an unknown male with an open wound on his forehead, and a slit throat. A cellphone with blood stains was also discovered, reports Bloemfontein Courant.

Odendaalsrus police report that in the early hours of March 16, they were informed of the body of a male lying in the street.

“The body of the unknown man was found next to house number 7727 K9 Section in Kutlwanong, Odendaalsrus.  The victim had an open wound on his forehead, and his throat was slit with a sharp object. A cellular phone and stone were found covered with blood stains at the scene next to the deceased,” explained police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng.

Thakeng added that a white cap with VW written on it was found next to the deceased. “He could be plus-minus 35 years old and he was wearing navy blue trousers, an orange shirt and blue/grey sandals. A case of murder has been opened for further investigation. The body is currently being kept at the Welkom Forensic Pathology Services.”
