Life Fourways hospital shooting: Man shoots wife, then himself

The perpetrator is believed to be dead after he shot himself following being caught by police.


A shooting has taken place at Fourways Life Hospital, multiple sources have confirmed.

Early reports indicated that a woman had been shot in the face by a male perpetrator who fled the scene. According to the Twitter account for the Crime Air Network Initiative, it has since been revealed that the woman was allegedly shot by her husband, who fled the scene, and after being cornered by SAPS and JMPD officers has since allegedly shot himself. He is now dead, police have confirmed.

The woman is currently in critical condition.

Police are currently on the scene.

A witness at the scene is circulating the following WhatsApp message: “Shooting at Fourways Life hospital Cedar Road West and Cedar Road South, white Range Rover, registration ‘Go Fish’, GP male, white, black shirt grey hair 55+, about 1.9m shot female driver in face. SAPS on site. Driver went [in] Fourways Mall direction”.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed that the woman has been hospitalised and is in critical condition and that the man has since committed suicide.

He also confirmed that a case of attempted murder is being investigated.
