NPA investigating EFF member accused of rape – report

The incident happened in November 2017, according to police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

A senior Economic Freedom Fighters member, who holds an influential position at the party’s Capricorn region in Limpopo, has been accused of rape by a 39-year-old female colleague.

The EFF official is a police suspect in a rape case which happened two years ago and was reopened by the National Prosecuting Authority, last week.

The incident happened in November 2017, according to what police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo told the Sowetan, the complainant alleged the EFF official bought them drinks which led to the allegations of rape against the EFF member.

A rape case was opened at the Lebowakgomo police station after the victim was allegedly raped following the bar outing.

Mojapelo said the EFF official was not in police custody pending a decision by the NPA, which had taken over investigations.

Provincial EFF chairperson Jossie Buthane confirmed the matter and said the party would not comment until the case was finalised.

“As for now, the member is innocent before our eyes until proven otherwise by a court of law,” Buthane said.
