Prosecutor Gerrie Nel was expected to continue with his cross-examination of the paralympic athlete who was on trial for the murder of his model and law graduate girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
On Wednesday, Nel swiftly reduced Pistorius to tears as he told him to take responsibility for killing her.
Using the screens around the court, Nel displayed a close-up photograph of the bullet wounds that Steenkamp sustained in her head and called on Pistorius to look at it.
“You killed a person, you killed Reeva Steenkamp, that’s what you did… Say: ‘I shot and killed her’,” Nel said.
“Take responsibility for what you did. I know you don’t want to see this, but look at it.”
Pistorius sobbed in protest: “I remember… my fingers touched her head, I do not have to look at a picture.”
Pistorius shot her dead through a locked bathroom at his home on Valentine’s Day last year.
He alleged to have mistaken her for an intruder.
