Oscar heard noise in toilet, fired shots

Paralympian Oscar Pistorius shot four times through the door of his toilet after he heard a noise behind it, he told the High Court in Pretoria in his murder trial on Tuesday.

“I heard a noise from inside the toilet which I perceived to be someone inside the toilet. I fired four shots into the door and shouted for Reeva to phone the police,” he testified to questioning by his lawyer Barry Roux.

Pistorius is accused of the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the early morning of February 14 last year.

He described how in the moments leading up to the shooting, he crept down the passage from his bedroom on his stumps, his gun in his right hand, steadying himself against the wall with his left.

As he got to the entrance of the bathroom, he shouted for Steenkamp to call the police. He believed she was still in bed.

“I wasn’t sure if someone was going to come up the ladder or out of the toilet and attack me,” he said, crying.

He testified he heard his first floor bathroom window sliding open.

Workmen who had been busy fixing up his house had placed ladders on the ground underneath it.

After he fired, he retreated back into his bedroom, his ears ringing from the shots.

Pistorius is accused of murdering Steenkamp in his Pretoria townhouse.

He is also charged with contravening the Firearms Control Act.

He allegedly fired a shot from a Glock pistol under a table at a Johannesburg restaurant in January 2013. On September 30, 2012 he allegedly shot through the open sunroof of a car with his 9mm pistol while driving with friends in Modderfontein.

The athlete has also pleaded guilty on these two charges.
