The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal has called on the alleged killer of a member of its provincial executive committee (PEC), Sindisiwe Ndlovu, to be denied bail.
The SABC reported that members of the league were protesting outside the New Hanover Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The broadcaster reported that the league’s provincial secretary, Thanduxolo Sabelo, said the ANCYL did not want the suspect to be granted bail.
Police in the province said on Tuesday that Ndlovu was allegedly shot and killed by “a known suspect” on Tuesday at around 3am at the Thokozani area in Cramond.
“A 31-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for murder and the firearm used by the suspect was seized by police. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” police said.
In a statement following Ndlovu’s fatal shooting, the league in the province said according to its understanding, the suspect was Ndlovu’s boyfriend.
Sabelo was quoted as saying that the ANCYL wanted the suspect to remain behind bars until he was sentenced and that the league believed he would be sentenced to life imprisonment.
