Limpopo man allegedly beats mom to death with broomstick over food dispute

Police are now questioning the man's family members ahead of his next court appearance.

Mukhethwa Tshivhase from Matangari village has appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court on a charge of murder.

Tshivhase, 26, is accused of killing his mother. He allegedly beat her with a broomstick.

The assault on his mother occurred in their home in the early morning hours, on 5 September 2021.

Tshivhase’s mother, Caroline Khomola, 58, was asleep when her son allegedly returned home and demanded food from her.

He allegedly accused his mother of hiding food in her bedroom.

During the argument, Tshivhase allegedly lost his temper, picked up the broomstick and assaulted his mother.

Khomola apparently ran from the room, hoping to escape her assailant, but she didn’t get very far and collapsed at the gate.

She was taken to Donald Fraser Hospital, where she was certified dead on arrival.

The case has been postponed to 29 September 2021 for further investigations.
