The Mhala Regional Court sentenced a 55-year-old man to two life sentences for raping his daughters aged seven and nine after the death of their mother, Mpumalanga News reports.

Dicks Nkuna from Bushbuckridge was found guilty for raping the children between 2013 and 2015.

Monica Nyuswa, spokesperson of the National Prosecuting Authority, said the court heard that after the death of the victims’ mother, their biological father would take turns and rape them, as they were living together in one house.

In 2016, the rape ordeal was reported to a teacher at school who then reported the matter to police and Nkuna was arrested.

During trial, Nkuna pleaded not guilty.

Regional Court Prosecutor,  Kedibone Bareng led testimonies of the victims’ aunt, who reported the incident to the teacher, and the evidence of the teacher.

The state further led evidence of a doctor who examined the victims, a J88 report was also presented, and the accused was found guilty on both counts.

During sentencing, Magistrate Pheron Elmarie told the court that the accused did not show remorse for his actions.

He caused the victims to testify and relive the ordeal.  As a father, he was supposed to protect and defend the victims after the death of their mother. He destroyed the level of trust between him and his kids.

He then sentenced Nkuna to life imprisonment on each count of rape.

The court ordered these sentences to run concurrently. Effectively, Nkuna will serve life imprisonment.
