Court sees photos of Oscar’s home

A grey duvet and a pair of jeans lying crumpled on the floor and a magazine with bullets were found in Oscar Pistorius's main bedroom on February 14 last year.

This emerged on Thursday from photographs shown in the High Court in Pretoria during the athlete’s murder trial.

The paralympian had a cabinet with several sunglasses, a black air rifle, and a baseball bat. The door to his bedroom had a small hole in it.

An open case with eight wrist watches was in his bedroom. A fan stood between the bed and the sliding door leading to the balcony.

The former commander of the Boschkop police station in Pretoria, Colonel Giliam van Rensburg, took the court on a tour of the double-storey home.

Pistorius shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the house in Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria on February 14, last year.

The sequence of photos, taken by police hours after the murder, were displayed on screens around the court.

Viewers were taken on a step-by-step tour from the entrance hall, up the stairs, along the passage and to the main bedroom.

Many of the photos showed blood on the white walls and caramel-coloured tiled floors.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked Van Rensburg to explain what was visible in the photos.

Pistorius looked down as the first photos of the bathroom, and the large smears and pools of blood on the floor, were shown.

The athlete carried a dying Steenkamp from the toilet where he had shot her through the door, downstairs into the entrance hall.

Pistorius is accused of the premeditated murder of model and law graduate Steenkamp.

He is also charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and two counts of discharging a firearm in public.

Pistorius has denied guilt on all the charges.
