Suspected Mamelodi gang members back in the dock

Accused 'defrauded the City of Tshwane municipality of about R12 million'.

Two suspected members of a criminal gang in Mamelodi, called Boko Haram, are expected to be back in the dock on Thursday morning.

The suspects – Mncedisi Donald Ntloko and Sibongile Mabele, both aged 37 – made their first brief appearance at the Pretoria Magistrates Court last week on charges of fraud and contravention of the Prevention of Illegal Eviction and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act.

Their case was postponed for bail application.

According to National Prosecuting Authority regional spokeswoman Lumka Mahanjana, the gang is accused of  defrauding the City of Tshwane municipality of about R12 million.

“They illegally occupied a new block of flats built by the municipality for the Mamelodi residents as a low cost housing project and got involved in acts of criminality.”

The investigation continues.
