KZN woman sentenced to life for raping 10-year-old cousin

An investigation revealed that the woman had allegedly done it twice before.

A 30-year-old woman was on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by the Eshowe Regional Court for raping her 10-year-old cousin.

The culprit was invited to a birthday celebration of the victim’s younger brother in Eshowe last year in August in the Maqhakaza area, Eshowe, in KwaZulu-Natal. After the party, family members, the victim, and the accused slept in the same rondavel when she was caught raping the 10-year-old boy in the middle of the night.

“When the boy was questioned about rape, he told his mother that he was raped twice before by the same accused. A case of rape was opened at Eshowe police station for further investigation. After an intensive investigation by our experience Eshowe Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit members, the accused was arrested the following month and she was charged for rape.

“This will send a strong message to other criminals who might be involved in such criminal activities,” said the South African Police Service.
