KZN man accused of stabbing baby to death appears in court

The man, who is a relative of the mother of the baby, will undergo mental observation.


A 46-year-old man accused of killing a 14-month-old baby and attempting to stab the mother, was remanded in police custody following a recent court appearance, reports Phoenix Sun.

He will undergo mental observation.

The accused was arrested at the scene by KwaDabeka SAPS and charged for murder and attempted murder.

According to provincial police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbhele, last Monday, the baby boy was sleeping in his room at Indundumo in KwaZulu-Natal while his mother was outside doing laundry. She heard her baby crying hysterically and stumbled upon the man, who is a relative, stabbing her baby.

She attempted to stop the man, but he became more violent and stabbed her in her thigh.

Both victims were rushed to hospital, however, the baby later succumbed to his injuries. The case continues.
