Consumer Commission timeshare hearings move to Durban

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) will host public hearings in Durban on Monday and Tuesday as part of its public inquiry into the vacation ownership “timeshare” industry.

The NCC urged all affected consumers in and around the city to participate in the inquiry, either by appearing before its panel to make oral submissions or by making written testimonies.

The commission said in a statement that written submissions could be made via email on a prescribed form obtainable on request from the panel at email address: timeshareinquiry@thencc.org.za

According to the NCC, KwaZulu-Natal had the second-highest number of consumer complaints against property timeshare and related businesses.

Since the start of the inquiry on July 3, the NCC had held public hearings in Pretoria and Cape Town. The NCC said it was pleased with consumer participation in the inquiry thus far, and the initiative had been received with great enthusiasm.

“From the previous two public hearings several common trends and issues have already been identified, and the NCC hopes to uncover more in Durban,” the commission said.
