Mokoena was allegedly suicidal. Mantsoe appeared in court for the second time today. His bail application was postponed to June 9. The court has barred the media from releasing or live-tweeting exact details of the affidavits filed by the defence and the state. The magistrate has stated this sensitive information would likely affect the case.
It is understood Mantsoe was married for two years and had three children. He was separated from his wife at the time he began dating Mokoena. Mantsoe and Mokoena had both opened charges of physical assault against each other, with a voice note of Mokoena detailing how Mantsoe had gotten robbed and told police his injuries were caused by Mokoena.
“I think two days after he hit me, he was robbed in Braam, fell and was grazed, and went to the police station, and told me that it was me that assaulted him. So I didn’t have strength for him, I was like, wow. You know, if someone can go to that extent …
“While he was hitting me, I think I fell on top of his car, and it got dented, and he told the police that I damaged his car,” she said.
Mantsoe has been in police custody for the past three weeks. His close friends have described him as a reserved, shy churchgoer.
