City Power announces 8-hour power interruptions across Joburg regions E and F

City Power has issued notifications for several planned power interruptions affecting multiple areas across Regions E and F in mid-April as part of the utility’s ongoing network maintenance programme.

Region E: Founders Hill power interruption

Residents and businesses in parts of Founders Hill will experience a power outage on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, from 9am until 5pm.

The interruption is necessary for maintenance work at the Chilworth Road switching station.

“The interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on our network which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” City Power stated in the announcement.

Areas affected include Antwerp Street, Casino Street, the Golf Course area, Centenary Road and High Street.

Region F: Robertsham rescheduled outage

In Region F, a previously scheduled power interruption at Robertsham substation has been rescheduled. Originally planned for Tuesday 8 April, the maintenance will now take place on Wednesday 16 April from 8am until 4pm.

This outage will impact several neighbourhoods including Robertsham, Robertsham East, Robertsham Industrial, Harry Street, West Turffontein, Gilview, Theta, Framton, Hawden/Lakeview North and Evans Park.

Additional Region F interruption at Lunar substation

A separate power interruption has been scheduled in Region F at the Lunar substation on Tuesday 15 April from 8m until 4pm.

This will affect multiple locations including Mackenzies Place, Revive Herbal Centre, Sheffield Road, Fishways, Mount Kulal Street, Usave, Good Fellas Liquor and Steers.

“The interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service.”

City Power safety warning and customer support

City Power emphasised safety concerns across all announcements, noting: “As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live.”

The utility has expressed regret for any inconvenience these interruptions may cause.
