Businesswoman receives threats after accusations of taking bribe from Mbete

A Soweto businesswoman has reportedly opened a case of threats against a group of ANC supporters she alleges threatened to kill her in front of her family.

Prizzer Ndlovu, 46, claims the group has falsely accused her of receiving R15 million in black plastic bags from ANC national chairperson and National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete over a healing prayer event she organised in Naturena, south of Johannesburg, on August  27, The Sowetan reports.

The event was attended by hundreds of women, including the leadership of different taxi associations in Gauteng, to pray for an end to violence against women and children.

Ndlovu told the paper that she and her children no longer felt safe at home.

“Around 9pm on Tuesday night my 28-year-old son called me out [and said] that there is a group of men looking for me. I refused to go out and invited them inside my house, since I was sitting with my 12-year-old daughter. Immediately [as] they entered my house, one of the men kept his firearm in the open in front of my daughter,” she said.

Ndlovu said her daughter was traumatised by the incident and to hear insults hurled by grown men. She said tension first started when she was arranging the prayer event.

“Some of them then asked me what will Mbete bring for them because we are community leaders, and this is our ward. Then they later accused me of deliberately excluding them from the programme,” Ndlovu said.

“I told them I have never received even a cent from Mbete because the event was sponsored by local people and businesses,” she added.

Ndlovu said she met Mbete through a friend at ANC headquarters Luthuli House in Johannesburg to present her proposal for the healing prayer.

Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said the speaker was disappointed and disturbed that her association with the event was being used for intimidation against Ndlovu. He said issues of gander-based violence and rights of women were close to Mbete’s heart and that was why she honoured the invitation.

“The speaker doesn’t carry and distribute bags of cash to such events, as per the outrageous and ridiculous allegations,” Mothapo said.
