The Hawks have reportedly gunned down two of the 16 jail breakers who fled from Johannesburg Central Prison, aka Sun City, on Monday morning.
Two of the escapees were spotted in KwaZulu-Natal on the R33 near Greytown.
According to reports, the police stopped a car the men were travelling in. The suspects allegedly opened fire in panic.
Police returned fire, killing both men who were found in possession of a 9mm pistol and a toy gun.
