WATCH: Fire breaks out at building next to North Gauteng High Court

Tshwane emergency services have confirmed that a fire has broken out at a building in the Pretoria CBD.

It is believed the blaze started at the ProcForum Building belonging to the Legal Practice Council behind the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday morning.

Tshwane Emergency Services Charles Mabaso said firefighters are on the scene.

“According to information we have received, it is the (ProcForum building)… that’s how I’ve received the name. So far, there’s multiple patients trapped between the first and the fifth floor.

“Our crews are on the ground. I have not yet received the numbers in terms of those who may have been injured or a total number of those who may have already been evacuated.”

In an update, Mabaso said eight people were assessed and treated for injuries related to the blaze.

“Two were treated for bruises, two for smoke inhalation. Another four was assessed for smoke inhalation and released on the scene.”

Mabaso says the fire has been extinguished and that the cause of the blaze is being investigated.

This comes on the day that the murder trial of Bafana Bafana soccer star Senzo Meyiwa is expected to resume.

Accused one to four will be represented by instructing attorney TT Thobane, following Advocate Malesela Teffo’s withdrawal from the case.
