Ethiopian Airlines confirm 157 dead after crash

A jet carrying 149 passengers and eight crew members has crashed in Ethiopia. Reports received from the Ethiopian broadcaster has confirmed that all passengers and crew members have perished in the crash.

According to eNCA, the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 plane crashed on Sunday morning while travelling from Addis Ababa to Nairobi. Contact with the plane was lost at 8:44am, less than ten minutes into the flight.

Euronews reports that the crash took place in Bishoftu, 62 km southeast of Addis Ababa.

The airline’s CEO said in a statement that he extends his “profound sympathy and condolences to the families and loved ones of passengers and crew who lost their lives in this tragic accident.”

Air traffic network Flight Radar 24’s Twitter page has indicated that the plane’s vertical speed was unstable after take off.
