Pupil stable after being shot at Dowerglen High School
All pupils at the school were taken into the hall as a precaution.

An armed robbery took place at Dowerglen High School in Edenvale on Wednesday.

At 12.30pm, a police helicopter landed at the school. Just before then, officials from the Gauteng Department of Education arrived at the school. A strong police presence was visible at the school.
Residents and motorists were advised to avoid the area surrounding Dowerglen this afternoon.
Silvia Tufegdzic, member of the School Governing Body (SGB) at Dowerglen High School, confirmed that one pupil was injured “following an incident” at the school earlier today.
She said that as a precautionary measure all learners at the school were taken into the school hall.
All learners have been accounted for.
“The injured learner was transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition,” she confirmed.
It is believed that the learner was injured by suspects fleeing from police.
When ER24 paramedics arrived, the injured student was lying in the school’s clinic, and a school sister was attending to his wounds.
The learner sustained wounds resembling gunshots to his chest and arm, leaving him in a serious condition.
Advanced life support interventions were used to stabilise him before he was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
It is understood that he was sitting in the classroom when they heard the gunshots. He was hit in the chest and immediately rushed to the clinic.
Pupils are receiving trauma counseling at the school.
