Fourth learner confirmed dead in Vanderbijlpark bridge collapse

Marnus Nagel passed away in ICU on Sunday morning.


A fourth Hoërskool Driehoek learner has died in ICU after a bridge collapse at the school on Friday. The boy was being treated at a hospital in Alberton.

OFM reports that Overvaal Stereo’s Facebook page confirmed the news on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Marnus Nagel.

Three learners died on Friday after the bridge collapse, and have been identified as Rayden Olckers, 17, 13-year-old Marli Carli and 13-year-old Jandre Steyn.

A large cement walkway collapsed, killing three pupils and injuring dozens more, on Friday morning.

The school has since been closed indefinitely by the Gauteng Department of Education. Education executive committee member (MEC) Panyaza Lesufi said: “There won’t be schooling until further notice.”
