ATM robber caught hiding in bushes

The robber was taken back to the mall’s security control office, where he was identified as one of the ATM robbers.

An ATM robber was caught hiding in the bushes behind Forest Hill City Mall after he and several accomplices broke open a safe in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

About 10 men entered the mall between 2am and 3am and managed to open a Standard Bank ATM safe, Tshwane metro police (TMPD) spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.

The men stole an undisclosed amount of money, but when SA Police Service arrived, the robbers fired shots towards the officers, he said.

“They ran towards the cemetery behind the mall. The TMPD K9 Unit gave chase behind the mall and found one suspect hiding in the bushes.” The robber was taken back to the mall’s security control office where he was identified as one of the ATM robbers.

“He was arrested and a case of business burglary and attempted murder was opened for further investigation.”

The remaining nine were still at large. No injuries were reported.
