Reports indicate there has been an armed robbery at a bank in Pietermaritzburg’s CBD on Chatterton Road this afternoon at 12.15pm, reports the Maritzburg Sun.
It was alleged the armed robbery of a member of the public entering the bank took place in the parking lot of the bank.
Gunshots were heard outside the bank.
The suspects allegedly fled in a white Mercedes riddled with bullet holes at the rear and the rear window shot out. The vehicle was seen fleeing to the CBD and may have been headed to the highway, according to reports.
The second vehicle involved was a green Nissan X-Trail.
The SAPS were on the scene and the area was cordoned off. The police advised the public avoid the area.
