An armed robbery took place at NWJ Fine Jewellery store in the Mall of the South on Sunday at about 10.22am.
This is according to a statement by the Mall of the South centre management on Sunday, the Comaro Chronicle reports.
The mall’s centre management said the perpetrators made off with an undisclosed number of goods and that the security responded immediately.
“One shot was fired. There were no injuries,” said the mall management, adding that the mall’s security and police were busy with investigations.
The Comaro Chronicle had earlier in the day reported that it was thought three suspects were involved in the incident and that someone in another jewellery store in the centre pushed the panic button as the robbery incident was unfolding.
Shoppers reported seeing three people run out to an awaiting vehicle, possibly a white Ford Ikon. It is thought that the suspects in the Ford Ikon could have been working with suspects in a blue VW Polo, however, this information remains unconfirmed.
Mondeor police attended the scene and collected spent cartridges as evidence.
Later on Sunday, another jewellery store in a West Rand mall was the target of an attempted robbery.
