A Facebook user named Obakeng Mothupi has the blood of many boiling after he took to Facebook recently to celebrate the death of a white motorcyclist and admit that he had deliberately drenched two white schoolchildren with water in the rain.
If another Facebook screenshot from his feed is to be believed, he wants all white people dead.
In another post from this week he told the anecdote of how he had sped up to splash water on two white kids.
“Today when I go pick my boy at school when it was raining‚ I met two white kids and there was lots of water on the side of the road‚ I accelerated and spilled water on to them. Shit it felt great to see them wet. I felt proud of myself‚” Mothupi supposedly wrote on Facebook.
When The Citizen went looking for his account, there were numerous Obakeng Mothupis, but none seemed to match the account that had produced these posts. It may have been taken down by Facebook or otherwise deleted after a barrage of complaints. The posts were not photoshopped.
A Facebook account that may or may not also belong to the person concerned has, however, been receiving messages from other users who believe they have found the person responsible.
According to Citizen readers, it is indeed the account in question, though Mothupi has apparently deleted all the offensive posts. The man has less than 30 friends and apparently works in North West.
On the account’s wall, Andre Ras wrote: “I will pray for you brother. You now have the desired attention you won’t be able to handle.”
Mothupi had also celebrated the death of a white motorcyclist:
Another user, Lawrence Laing, threatened him by saying that all bikers in southern Africa were now out to get him. “Be very certain, in our BIKING COMMUNITY if you ever find yourself at any biking event, and your pointed out. I leave it there!”
Charmain Domingo wrote: “You need to know that you have been reported and charges of racism has been made against you. Don’t like whites leave this world it’s full of them!”
John Durno said: “We don’t hate you yet you hate us. As a human being, you need serious help.”
TimesLive reported that Mothupi tried to defend himself by saying he’d witnessed white people people being mean towards black children.
They quoted him as writing: “To everyone who said I was a terrible person when I spilled water on white kids the other day today a white person spilled water on black kids & after that incident I followed that bakkie till spar & fortunately I parked close to it white kids who were with him were so happy of what they saw & the driver was so excited as if he just reached climax. Now i’ll wait for your opinions especially those who raised them that day.”
TimesLive reported that his Facebook profile listed him as married‚ from Lichtenburg‚ North West‚ and that he was an ANC supporter. Most of the numerous other Obakeng Mothupis are also from North West.
It’s unclear if he will face an investigation by the SA Human Rights Commission, though public outrage against his comments has been widespread.
His Facebook profile reportedly listed him as married‚ from Lichtenburg‚ North West‚ and a former student at Taletso FET College working at Masarasarane Trading & Projects.
