ANCYL stoking violence – DA

In a video on Facebook, the league calls for total shut down of Tshwane on Friday.

The DA has opened a case of incitement of violence with the police against the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Tshwane after a video was posted on Facebook calling for a total shutdown of the city on Friday.

According to DA regional chairperson Abel Tau, ANCYL leader Lesego Makhubela posted the video praising the use of petrol bombs in this effort.

He said this is part of the ANC’s effort to make the city of Tshwane ungovernable. Tau handed the video clips over to the police and requested them to immediately charge Makhubela with hate speech and incitement to violence.

“M a k h u b e l a ’ s comments are dangerous and in direct contravention of the constitution, which states that ‘everyone has the right to freedom of expression which does not extend to among others, incitement of imminent violence’,” said Tau.

He said a call for petrol bombs and the use of violence goes against the struggle for democracy, which sought to protect all citizens from this sort of violent persecution.

Makhubela confirmed that they are going to bring Tshwane to a standstill. “We are calling on all taxi drivers, security guards, employees of the city, informal traders and all those who were fired by the DA-led administration since they came to power, to come and join us in the march to Tshwane House.”

He said he never incited violence when he said, “Viva petrol bomb, Viva!” He said “Petrol Bomb” is the nickname of the ANCYL regional secretary Ratshi Mashamba and Makhubela’s is “Spitfire”, named after the popular British fighter aircraft of the Second World War.

“It’s clear the ANC only cares about feeding itself and not serving the people. The DA-led administration is undoing ANC corruption and will not be intimidated,” Tau said.
