ANCYL accuses Makhosi Khoza of fabricating death threats

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has accused the party’s senior member of parliament, Makhosi Khoza, of making up death threats, saying she had “manufactured” them to gain public sympathy.

This followed her public comments on the upcoming parliamentary no-confidence vote in President Jacob Zuma, which encouraged the ruling party’s MPs to vote with their conscience.

Khoza had previously indicated that she was in favour of a secret ballot on the motion that was tabled by the Democratic Alliance in the National Assembly, prompting the ANCYL eThekwini region to threaten to picket outside her house and publicise her residential address on social media.

The league has also called for Khoza to resign as an MP.

The ANCYL’s chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Kwazi Mshengu, told EWN on Monday Khoza was on a mission of “self-adulation”.

“We are of the firm view that she is manufacturing so that she mobilises public sympathy because it’s clear that she is not finding joy from the structures of the movement. Comrade Makhosi, in our view, is on a mission of self-adulation.

“We think [this claim] by Comrade Khoza is an exaggeration of the worst view. We want to put it on record that there has never been a threat by any member of the youth league against her,” Mshengu was quoted as saying.
