Outspoken African National Congress (ANC) MP Makhosi Khoza has revealed her daughter has also been receiving death threats from the same people who have been intimidating her over her stance to vote with her conscience in the upcoming vote of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.
“It is extremely important that we understand the exceptional circumstances. A lot of people are being intimidated, and it’s coming from all angles … I never thought that they would escalate to my children,” Khoza said, speaking at a public debate in Salt River, Cape Town, on Tuesday night.
She said her daughter received the death threats on Facebook and via SMS as recently as Tuesday, which she said had “really frightened” her.
Despite opening two cases with police and requesting National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete for protection, Khoza said she was still yet to receive any formal protection.
Khoza has been vocal about her views on Zuma’s leadership and the state of the governing party, which have landed her in trouble with the ANC caucus in parliament and the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the eThekwini region.
The youth league has previously threatened to protest outside her house and called for her sacking from the national legislature.
Other speakers at the public debate on whether the motion should be held by way of a secret ballot or not include Professor Steven Friedman and UDM leader Bantu Holomisa.
