ANC MP Khoza ‘scared’ to accept security from parliament – report

Senior ANC MP Makhosi Khoza is consulting with security experts on whether she should accept security support offered to her by parliament and police.

eNCA reports that Khoza said she is ‘scared’ of accepting security from parliament or police as they might be the ones who want to harm her.

She has been receiving death threats from unknown people after speaking out against President Jacob Zuma’s leadership.

Last week, both parliament and police indicated that they would protect Khoza against the threats but she has not accepted their support.

“Representatives of Parliament and the South African Police Service (SAPS) met with Member of Parliament Dr Makhosi Khoza on Friday, 21 July, regarding the security arrangements made for her. Parliament and SAPS last week decided to provide Dr Khoza with the necessary support following a security assessment conducted after threats reportedly made on her life,” parliament said in a statement.

It said Khoza indicated on Friday that she would first consult with her family and revert with a decision by the end of last weekend.

“Both Parliament and SAPS are still awaiting Dr Khoza’s decision. Parliament wishes to state that all security arrangements regarding Dr Khoza are ready for activation as soon as she indicates acceptance of the support.”
