ANC Gauteng conferences postponed (for real this time)
ANC Gauteng says it is confident the province will meet the ANC NEC deadline to convene successful regional and provincial conferences by the end of July.
The ANC Gauteng provincial secretary, Mankwana Papo, said in a statement that all regional conferences in the province would be held on the weekend of June 29 to July 1 and on the weekend of July 6 to July 8.
This after confusion arose following party secretary-general Ace Magashule telling the media on Monday that the ANC had decided that all Gauteng regional conferences should be postponed and the ANC’s spokesperson Pule Mabe saying on Tuesday that Magashule had been taken “out of context”.

In the statement, the provincial secretary says the decision was taken “due to outstanding logistical and organisational processes, which include the finalisation of all formally lodged disputes/complaints, verification of all convened BBGMs/BGMs by the National Audit Team and the fact that there are branches which still have to convene meetings this weekend”.
“We are confident the province will meet the ANC NEC deadline to convene successful regional and provincial conferences by the end of July 2018. Further details on the state of readiness will be shared after the conclusion of outstanding BBGMs/BGMs scheduled for this coming weekend,” the statement reads.
However, the ANC Gauteng said five of the regions within the province had met the 70% minimum requirement to hold their conferences.
“Out of 472 branches that qualified to hold Branch General Meetings [BGMs] and Branch Biennial General Meetings [BBGMs] in preparation for Regional Conferences and the 13th Provincial Conferences, 419 branches successfully convened quorating meetings by Sunday, 17th June 2018. The remaining 53 branches have been given until Sunday, 24th June 2018 to hold quorating meetings as a way of giving more time to all qualifying branches to prepare for Regional Conferences and the 13th Provincial Conference,” the statement reads.
