It is believed that the ANC national conference has gone against counsel provided by an electoral agency that delegates not walk into the venue with ballot papers when voting candidates into the national executive committee.
Earlier in the day ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa told the media thatit is important that delegates carefully consider who they vote into the structure so they can serve the organisation with “distinction.”
Kwazi Mshengu denied that delegates wanted to walk into the voting venue with a list of names so they could influence each other on who to include into the list.
“Delegates were making a point here that it will be difficult to recall all the 80 names. During branch nominations there was a list which was provided. They said why can’t this be done at the national conference,” he explained.
He also dismissed a suggestion that this is slate politics in motion and said all they wanted was the opportunity to be sure they are carrying the mandate of their branches through voting for names discussed at branch level.
