Today, February 20, would mark Joost van der Westhuizen’s 46th birthday, and his ex-wife Amor Vittone took to Facebook to mark the day with a touching poem.
Van Der Westhuizen lost his battle with motor neuron disease on February 6 and Vittone was among those who paid tribute to the former SA rugby player at his memorial service, held at Loftus Versfeld on February 10.

Vittone posted a happy birthday in heaven poem for Joost on her public Facebook page on Monday and said it was with love from herself and the couple’s two children, Jordan and Kylie.
Just five hours since the post was published, it had received more than 5 000 reactions and over 700 shares.
In the comments section, many Facebook users shared their own birthday wishes for the late Van Der Westhuizen and wished Vittone and her two children strength.

YOU reported last February that, for his 45th birthday, Van Der Westhuizen celebrated the day at his Dainfern home with his family.
At the weekend, Sport24 reported that Van Der Westhuizen’s brother had said that, hours before his passing, the late rugby star had decided to take himself off the ventilator and doctors had reportedly said he would have had only days to live if he had continued on it.
