Principal of high school in Durban North dies in tragic car crash

Staff and pupils of Northlands Girls’ High School are mourning the death of their principal who died in a fatal car crash on the M4 Ruth First Highway on Wednesday evening, reports Northglen News.

In a statement released on the school’s Facebook page, the school paid tribute to its “beloved principal”.

“It is with deep sadness that Northlands Girls’ High School announces the tragic loss of our beloved principal, Ms Roshni Moonsamy… The school has made counsellors available to staff and pupils at the difficult times… our thoughts and prayers are with Ms Moonsamy’s family,” the statement read.

Durban North ward councillor, Shaun Ryley, also offered his condolences to the school staff and pupils.

“I’m deeply saddened by the news of and I offer my sincerest condolences to Ms Moonsamy’s family, the staff at the school and learners. They are all in my thoughts and prayers,” Ryley said.

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 said paramedics arrived on the scene last night to find the vehicle completely engulfed in flames.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control crashing into a bridge pillar. The eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services had doused the flames and on closer inspection, a body was found burnt beyond recognition in the driver’s seat,” he said.
