Two dead, four injured after bus crashes into bakkie

Six passengers travelling on the back of a bakkie jumped into the road after hitting a pothole.


A man and a woman were killed on impact when they landed in front of a bus, after the bakkie they were travelling on the back of with four other passengers hit a pothole in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday afternoon, reports Vaal Weekblad.

The impact forced the passengers, who were on the back of the bakkie, to jump out of the vehicle after they saw a bus was travelling towards them at a fast speed and two of the passengers were hit.

Four patients were seriously injured, and transported to hospital by Gauteng EMS. According to the driver and the passenger who sat in the GWM bakkie, he stopped after hitting a two-by-one metre-long pothole.

According to him, the bus hit his bakkie from behind. The six passengers sitting in the back of the bakkie saw the bus come at them at a high speed, which was when they jumped off the bakkie.

Four of the six passengers jumped into the oncoming traffic lane, where the bus was racing towards the bakkie. A man and woman were hit by the bus, and died on impact. Two other passengers had light injuries, and one was stuck in the road with a knee injury.

Paramedics from Gauteng EMS and police were on the scene, and forensic investigators assessed the scene.
