Limpopo traffic officer killed in horror head-on collision

The MEC for transport and community safety in Limpopo, Makoma Makhurupetje, has conveyed her condolences to the family of a Limpopo traffic officer following a fatal accident over the past weekend.

Provincial inspector BA Thobakgale was killed on the R567 near Montiti village in the early hours of Sunday morning, on his way from Moletjie to Seshego in Limpopo when a light delivery vehicle bumped his vehicle from behind, reports Polokwane Review.

He lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle, causing him to be thrown out of his vehicle and died on impact, explained spokesperson Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala.

“Bumping a car from behind is a sign of gross recklessness on the part of any driver and it pains us to have to lose a dedicated and committed traffic officer of the calibre of provincial inspector Thobakgale. His life ended through the reckless action of another driver,” said MEC Makhurupetje.

Makhurupetje has strongly condemned drivers who drive recklessly, saying their actions are responsible for many deaths of innocent people. She added that should investigations prove negligence or recklessness on the part of the driver, the department will have to take stern action.

“We do not want to lose any more lives, hence I appeal to motorists to exercise caution at all times, especially now that we are heading towards the Easter weekend,” she emphasised.
