Following a few weeks that saw several of its popular personalities take turns to host Talk Radio 702’s breakfast show, the station has now confirmed the show’s presenter, Xolani Gwala, will be off air for several weeks as a result of a “serious medical challenge”.
In a statement issued by the station along with a voice note, Gwala thanked his listeners for the many messages they had sent enquiring about his wellbeing. He explained that a team of medical experts were working with him and exploring treatment options.
“I would like to inform you that currently I am facing a medical challenge. The medical team is still examining the nature of this medical challenge, and the process is under way,” he said.
“So when we are all clear about what it is, I’ll come back and let you know what it is, but it is a serious medical challenge.”
Gwala also appealed for privacy and the understanding of his listeners so that he could deal with the treatment when necessary.
“Other than that I certainly will be back as soon as everything is sorted out,” he said.
702’s station manager, Thabisile Mbete, expressed the station’s full support for Gwala and wished him a speedy recovery.
“We completely support Xolani and his family’s request for time and space, and we know that 702 listeners will share our heartfelt wishes for his speedy recovery,” she said.
The breakfast show will be hosted by Stephen Grootes until further notice.
